DETROIT - Ava Thielman made an impressive debut for the Oakland women's tennis team winning both No. 1 singles matches in straight sets helping the Golden Grizzlies claim singles round wins against host Detroit Mercy and Case Western Reserve to open play at the Detroit Mercy Invitational on Friday. 

Alexandra Whall and Amanda Nilsson also went 2-0 in singles play at the No. 4 and No. 6 position rounds respectively.

In doubles action, Oakland fell to Bowling Green.

The Golden Grizzlies conclude invitational play on Saturday, Sept 29 with doubles against Detroit Mercy at 9 a.m. followed by Case Western Reserve at 9:45 a.m. and singles against BGSU at 12:30 p.m.
