ROCHESTER, Mich. -- Erin Kownacki threw her 15th complete game of the season allowing just one earned run and striking out six batters as the Oakland softball team dropped a doubleheader against UIC 5-3 and 2-1 Sunday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field.

In the first game, Lauren Pletscher drove in a run with a RBI-single in the fourth inning, followed by Danielle Szajna who drove in another with a fielder's choice to second base. Jamie Squires ripped a RBI-triple to right field in the bottom of the seventh to cut the UIC lead to 5-3 but the rally fell short as the Flames struck out the next Oakland batter.

Squires picked up right where she left off in the series finale, driving in a run in the first inning with a sacrifice fly. However, UIC (34-20, 20-4 HL) matched that with a run of its own the next inning and drove in another in the top of the seventh to secure the series sweep.

Oakland (20-24, 13-11 HL) will be the No. 6 seed in the Horizon League Tournament next week hosted by UIC, and will face No. 3 seed Valparaiso Wednesday, May 10 at 3:30 p.m. ET. The winner will advance to take on No. 2 seed Youngstown State May 11 at 3:30 pm. ET. The Golden Grizzlies swept the Crusaders earlier this season in a three-game series.
