LIVONIA, Mich. - Mikayela Marciniak recorded a combined four hits and four RBIs including a three-run home run and triple while Abbey Walewski also posted four total hits as Oakland split a doubleheader with NKU, 7-3, 5-3, on Sunday afternoon at Madonna University Field.
Erin Kownacki picked her fifth win of the season in the circle tossing her ninth complete game with four strikeouts.
After falling behind 2-0 in the first inning of game one, Marciniak's triple drove in Lyndsay Hill followed by a RBI-single by Devon Smith tying the game at 2-2.
After a RBI-double by Brittney Miller gave Oakland the lead in the third, Marciniak's three-run shot in the fourth sealed the game giving the Golden Grizzlies a commanding 7-2 lead. Kownacki then closed the door on NKU allowing only a run over the last three innings.
In the nightcap, Oakland scored a run in the first and second inning off a RBI-double from Smith and single from Walewski to take a 2-0 lead.
NKU tied the game with a two-run homer in the second and took the lead with three runs in the fifth. Milled added a RBI-single in the bottom half but that would be as close as the Golden Grizzlies would get.
Oakland continues league play against Cleveland State with a doubleheader on Tuesday, April 4 starting at 2 p.m. and single game on Wednesday, April 5th at 4 p.m. Depending on weather and field conditions, these games might be also moved to Madonna University Field.
