MEMPHIS, Tenn. - Erin Kownacki tossed her third complete game shutout with a season-high nine strikeouts while Mikayela Marciniak connected on her first homerun of the season as Oakland blanked Buffalo, 2-0, to open play at the U of M Softball Tournament on Friday. The Golden Grizzlies battled in the nightcap against host Memphis but fell 4-3.
Lyndsay Hill delivered a RBI single for Oakland's second run of the game against the Bulls. Against Memphis, Kelsie Swanson went 2-for-3 with a double and a two-RBI single in the third giving the Golden Grizzlies a 3-0 lead.
Memphis cut the lead to 3-2 in the bottom of the third and added two runs in the bottom of the sixth to seal the win.
Oakland continues tournament play against Indiana at 10 a.m. ET followed by Western Illinois at 12:15 p.m. on Saturday, March 11.
