VALPARAISO, Ind. - Oakland's offense (12-27, 7-10) came alive as all nine batters recorded a hit led by Haley Zemmer who went 2-for-4 with a RBI single while picking up her ninth win of the season going 5.0 innings with two strikeouts as the Golden Grizzlies held off Valparaiso, 7-6, in the first leg of a doubleheader on Sunday. The Crusaders won game two, 3-2, with a walk-off double in the bottom of the seventh inning.
Oakland broke the game open with four runs in the sixth off RBI singles from Kelsie Swanson and Laura Pond and a two-run single from Mikayela Marciniak to take a 7-1 lead. Valpo added two runs in the third and three in the sixth but Pond was able to keep the tying run at bay to secure the win.
Swanson and Brittney Miller each hit 1-for-2 with a RBI single in the second game while Abbey Walewski and Sarah Hartley each added a hit and run scored. Kaley Waalkes went 6.2 innings with seven strikeouts as Oakland saw Valpo's Kaitlyn Ranieri tally her second walk-off hit of the series.
