ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sarah Hartley went 1-for-3 with a triple, three RBIs and run while Jackie Kisman went a perfect 4-for-4 with a RBI and two runs scored as No.1 Oakland (25-22) held off No. 4 Green Bay (18-27) 6-5 in second round action at the 2015 Horizon League Softball Championships on Thursday afternoon at the Oakland Softball Field. Erin Kownacki picked up her 14th win of the season tossing her 20th complete game allowing only five hits with one earned run and four strikeouts.
Sara Cupp hit 1-for-2 with two RBIs, Marina Salinas added two runs scored while Morgan Muron also hit 1-for-2.
Oakland took at 1-0 lead in the first off a single from Cupp to score Kisman.
In the bottom of the third, Oakland got back-to-back bunt singles from Salinas and Kisman and were brought home by Hartley's triple. Cupp then added a sacrifice fly to plate Hartley giving the Golden Grizzlies a 4-0 lead.
It was déjà vu in the bottom of the fifth as Salinas walked followed by two more bunt singles from Kisman and Muron. Harley hit a deep sacrifice fly bringing in Salinas to move Oakland ahead 5-0.
In the top of the fifth, Green Bay sent 10 batters to the plate scoring five runs (four unearned) to tie the game at 5-5. However, in the bottom of the frame, Lauren Mead was hit by a pitch and was driven home with a clutch base hit up the middle by Kisman giving Oakland the lead 6-5 and eventual win.
Oakland win play the winner of No. 2 UIC and No. 5 Valparaiso on Thursday, May 8 at 2:30 p.m. at the Oakland Softball Field.
