MILWAUKEE - Connor Fannon went 2-for-4, with two doubles and drove in two runs, while Zach Sterry finished 2-for-5 with a double and home run to lead Oakland (10-38, 5-24 HL) in a 7-4 loss at Milwaukee (35-18, 16-13 HL) in the regular-season finale on Saturday at Henry Aaron Field. The Golden Grizzlies and Panthers each had 12 hits in the game.
"It was a tough series," said head coach John Musachio. "We were hoping to get momentum heading into the tournament and that didn't happen. We are looking forward to the tournament."
Brett Impemba was the final Oakland player with two hits and drove in a run. Right-handed pitcher Nate Schweers earned a no decision, throwing 3.0 innings, allowing one earned run and struck out one.
With the game tied at 4-4 in the seventh inning, Milwaukee's Derek Peake singled to right field, advanced to second on a wild pitch and third on a passed ball. After a ground out to second base, Peake would score the winning run on another passed ball with two outs.
UWM added two insurance runs in the eighth inning to earn the series sweep over Oakland. The Panthers' Peake led the way offensively, going 4-for-5 with a run scored and RBI.
The Golden Grizzlies will be the No. 6 seed and will face No. 3 seed Milwaukee on Wednesday in a single-elimination game at the Horizon League tournament in Whiting, Ind. in Oil City Stadium. All the action can be seen on ESPN3.
