MILWAUKEE - Zach Sterry and Tyler Janish each collected base hits as the Oakland baseball team (10-37, 5-23) fell to Milwaukee (34-18, 15-13), 5-0, on Friday from Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers. The Golden Grizzlies and Panthers played in front of a crowd of over 1,000 fans at the major league ballpark.
"It was a great experience playing in a big league ballpark for our young men and the program," said coach John Musachio. "Milwaukee pitched it extremely well tonight. I take my hat off to their pitching staff."
Oakland was shutout for the second time in as many days as the Milwaukee pitching staff allowed only two hits against the Golden Grizzlies. UWM's Justin Langley earned the winning tossing 5.0 innings without allowing a hit, while recording four strikeouts and two walks. Aaron Dehn took the loss allowing three runs on four hits in 2.0 innings of work.
The Panthers scored three runs in the second inning as Nick Unes was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded, followed by a Eric Solberg sacrifice fly to center field and a RBI-single off the bat of Luke Meeteer.
UWM pushed its lead to 5-0 in the fifth inning on a single to third base by Mike Porcaro to bring home Sam Koenig and Unes drove in his second run of the game with an infield single.
The Golden Grizzlies collected their first hit of the game in the seventh inning as Sterry singled to the second basemen. Janish would reach base in the eighth inning on a base knock to right field.
Oakland will play its regular-season finale on Saturday against UWM at Henry Aaron Field starting at 1 p.m. ET.
