YPSILANTI, Mich. - Robby Enslen hit a home run and drove in three runs, while Trent Drumheller went 3-for-4 as the Oakland baseball team (10-35) fell in 13 innings at Eastern Michigan (19-32), 11-10, on Monday from Oestrike Stadium.
"Our men battled their tails off tonight," said coach John Musachio. "Both teams had some chances but they were able to cash in one more time than we did."
Tied 10-10 in the 13th inning, Eastern Michigan won the game as Tony DiLeo would draw a bases-loaded walk to bring in the game-winning run.
Oakland trailed 9-8 in the top of the ninth inning, but was able to send the game to extra innings as Tyler Pagano led off the inning with a double and scored on a sacrifice fly off the bat of Matt DiLeo.
The Golden Grizzlies took a one-run lead in the 11th inning on a RBI-single by DiLeo after Jake Morton led the inning with a triple. Oakland looked to increase its lead with the bases loaded but EMU would get the final out to keep it a one-run advantage. The Eagles tied the game in the bottom half of the inning on a Jordan Peterson sacrifice fly.
Oakland led 5-3 after four innings led by a RBI-double by Sterry in the first inning and a three-run fourth inning as Mike Brosseau, Enslen and Ian Yetsko each drove in runs. The Golden Grizzlies pushed the lead to 8-3 as Enslen drove in a run with a double in the sixth and hit a solo home run, his first of the season, in the eighth inning.
EMU responded with a six-run eighth inning to take a 9-8 lead as the Eagles collected six hits including a two-RBI double by David Lett for the one-run lead going into the ninth inning.
Tyler Palm suffered the loss allowing two runs, one earned, in 2.1 innings of work. Oakland starter Nate Green went 3.0 innings allowing two runs on three hits. EMU's Austin Wilson earned his first win of the season tossing the final 2.0 innings without giving up a run while recording three strikeouts.
The Golden Grizzlies return to the diamond next week for their final Horizon League regular-season series as they travel to Milwaukee to face the Panthers starting on Thursday at 4 p.m. ET. Oakland and UWM will play on Friday at Miller Park, home of the Milwaukee Brewers, on Friday beginning at 7 p.m. ET.
