ROCHESTER, Mich. - Jackie Kisman and Marina Salinas each recorded two hits and drove in a run as the Oakland softball team (23-21, 13-5), dropped the series opener to Wright State (18-30, 12-6), 4-2, on Friday from the Oakland Softball Field. The Golden Grizzlies still remain on top of the Horizon League standings and can clinch the regular-season title on Saturday.
Trailing 2-0 in the fourth inning, Oakland would tie the game as Salinas and Kisman would hit back-to-back RBI-singles with runners on second and third.
Wright State regained the lead in the fifth inning as Reagan Stofchek hit a single to center field to plate Rachael Oakley from second base. The Raiders pushed the advantage to 4-2 in the top of the sixth inning off a infield single by Jess Gorman.
Erin Kownacki suffered the loss tossing all 7.0 innings allowing four runs on nine hits. WSU's Montana Wear earned the win throwing a complete game allowing two runs, one earned, on eight hits with two strikeouts.
Oakland and Wright State will play the final two games of the regular season on Saturday starting at 1 p.m. The Golden Grizzlies can clinch the regular-season crown with a sweep of WSU or by winning one game combined with one UIC loss against Cleveland State. It is also Senior Day at the Oakland Softball Field as seniors from both teams will be recognized beginning at 12:30 p.m.
