BLOOMFIELD HILLS, Mich. - Karine Celis and Cam Sabourin were two-time winners Friday afternoon as the Oakland women's tennis team put together a strong team effort to defeat Horizon League foe Wright State 4-3 at the Bloomfield Tennis and Fitness Center.

The victory was the second home Horizon League win for the Golden Grizzlies and giving Oakland a tiebreaker that could come into play for seeding in the 2015 Horizon League Championship April 24-26. The win improved Oakland's record to 3-13 overall and 2-3 in league action.

After Wright State (11-10, 1-4 Horizon League) started off winning No. 2 doubles, but Oakland responded with a pair of wins at No. 1 and No. 3 doubles to grab the match's first point. Sabourin paired with Camille Hemond-Hill to get their first win at No. 1 singles with a 6-3 victory, while Celis and teammate Juliana Guevara answered soon after with a 6-3 win of their own.

In singles play, Celis was emphatic against Wright State's Aby Madrigal at No. 2 singles, winning 6-4, 6-1. The Raiders answered soon after with a 6-4, 6-1 win at No. 4 singles to keep the team score within one point.

But within a span of two minutes, Oakland added two more singles victories to decide the contest. First, Sabourin took advantage of early service breaks in her two sets on the way to a 6-4, 6-2 win at No. 1 singles. Conversely, Tamara Blum's key breaks of her opponent's service came late in each set, resulting in an exciting 7-5, 6-4 victory at No. 3 singles.

Wright State managed two more singles wins at No. 6 and No. 4 singles for the final 4-3 score. At No. 5 singles, Theresa Elder forced a third set with a gritty second-set win. But the Oakland senior was unable to keep momentum in a 6-4, 4-6, 6-3 setback.

The Golden Grizzlies return to action Saturday, April 11 when Oakland travels to UIC to take on the Flames at 11 a.m. CT.
