YOUNGSTOWN, Ohio - Zach Sterry tallied three RBIs, while Matt DiLeo tallied two hits, scored a run and drove in another as the Oakland baseball team (5-18, 3-8) dropped the series finale to Youngstown State (7-17, 3-9), 7-6, on Friday at Eastwood Field.

"This was a very competitive series in which all three games could have gone either way," said head coach John Musachio. "The big inning has really hurt us all year and today was no exception."

Trailing 7-3 in the seventh inning, the Golden Grizzlies scored a pair of runs as Sterry drove home Jake Morton and DiLeo with a single to center field to cut the deficit to 7-5. In the ninth inning, with runners on first and third, Robby Enslen plated Mike Brosseau with a groundball to the shortstop but Oakland was unable to score the game-tying run.

Youngstown State took command of the game in the fifth with a six-run inning. Frank Califano and Jason Shirley hit back-to-back RBI singles followed by Alex Core bringing home three runs with a bases-loaded double down the right-field line. The Penguins added an insurance run in the seventh inning on a throwing error.

Oakland jumped out to a 2-0 lead after the third inning with sacrifice flies by DiLeo and Enslen in the second and third inning, respectively.

Nate Green suffered the loss for Oakland allowing six runs on six hits in 4.0 innings of work with one strikeout. Joe King earned the win for YSU tossing 2.0 innings in relief allowing one run on two hits.

The Golden Grizzlies will be back on the diamond on Tuesday as they are scheduled to host Kent State at the Oakland Baseball Field starting at 3 p.m.
