CLEVELAND - Courtnee Johnson hit 3-for-4 with a RBI and run scored while Morgan Muron went 2-for-4 with a RBI as the Oakland softball team (20-19, 11-4 HL) dropped a tough 4-3 decision to Cleveland State (21-20, 6-7 HL) courtesy of a two-run walk-off home run in the bottom of the seventh inning on Friday at Viking Field.
TJ Bindus and Sarah Hartley each hit 1-for-2 with a RBI and run scored. Erin Kownacki (11-10) picked up the loss going 6.1 innings with a strikeout.
With a runner on first in the bottom of the seventh, CSU's Cynthia Woodard hit her league leading 21st home run to give the Vikings the 4-3 win.
In the second inning, Bindus hit a single to plate Johnson to give Oakland a 1-0 lead. CSU added a run in the bottom half to tie the game and another in the third to take 2-1 lead.
Oakland responded in the fourth inning as Johnson hit a laser to left side to score Hartley tying the game at 2-2.
The game remained tied until Muron hit a double off the left field wall scoring Jackie Kisman in the top of the seventh giving the Golden Grizzlies a 3-2 lead before Woodard's game-winning shot.
Due to inclement weather forecast, Oakland and CSU will now play a doubleheader on Saturday, April 25 beginning at 11 a.m. followed by the second game at 1 p.m.
