OAKLAND CAPTURES SERIES OPENER OVER VALPARAISO, 8-6

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Mike Brosseau went 3-for-4 with two doubles and three RBIs, while Jason Hager tossed 6.2 solid innings as the Oakland baseball team (7-26, 4-14) won the series opener over Valparaiso (14-21, 10-8), 8-6, on Friday from the Oakland Baseball Field.

Hager earned his third win of the season allowing four runs on just four hits with four strikeouts. He becomes the first player in program history to surpass 300 innings pitched. Lucas Scocchia collected his second save of the season throwing the final 2.1 innings allowing two runs, one earned, on three hits with three strikeouts.

Oakland jumped out to an early lead in the first inning with a RBI-double by Robby Enslen and added two more runs the next inning as Brosseau doubled home Chris Van Dyke followed by a Tyler Janish sacrifice fly to right field.

The Golden Grizzlies pushed its lead to 6-0 in the third inning as Brosseau drove in a pair of runs with a double to left field and Trent Drumheller drew a bases-loaded walk.

Valparaiso would cut the lead to 7-6 with three runs in the seventh inning on RBI-singles by Nate Palace and Dustin Beasley, followed by two runs in the eighth on a Nolan Lodden single to plate a run and Palace hitting a sacrifice fly to right field. However, Oakland would score an insurance run in the bottom of the eighth on a sacrifice fly by Matt DiLeo to score Ian Yetsko for the 8-6 final score.

Valpo's Dalteen Lundeen, the reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Year, suffered the loss allowing six runs, four earned, on nine hits in 2.2 innings of work.

Oakland and Valparaiso will continue its three-game series on Saturday beginning at 3 p.m. from the Oakland Baseball Field.
