ANN ARBOR, Mich. - Mike Brosseau went 3-for-5 with two doubles, while Tyler Pagano also collected three hits as the Oakland baseball team (6-26) fell to Michigan (25-16), 10-4, on Tuesday from the Wilpon Complex.
"After the first inning, we really played well," said head coach John Musachio. "Unfortunately, playing eight strong innings isn't always enough."
Michigan jumped out to an early lead with six runs in the bottom of the first inning. UM would capitalize on two errors by the Golden Grizzlies and a two-RBI triple by Johnny Slater to left-center field.
The Wolverines would add two more runs in the third inning before Oakland would score its first run of the game in the fourth on a double down the left-field line by Brosseau to plate Pagano. Down 8-2 in the seventh, the Golden Grizzlies cut the lead in half as Zach Sterry drove home Brosseau with a single up the middle followed by Trent Drumheller coming home on a throwing error by the centerfielder.
Michigan was able to push its lead back to six runs in the eighth as Harrison Wenson scored on a throwing error and later Travis Maezes drove home the final run of the game with a ground ball to second base for the 10-4 score.
Collin Gee suffered the loss for Oakland allowing six runs, three earned, on three hits. UM's Matt Ogden earned the win tossing 4.0 innings, allowing one unearned run on five hits with two strikeouts.
The Golden Grizzlies return home this weekend as they open a three-game Horizon League series against Valparaiso on Friday starting at 3 p.m. from the Oakland Baseball Field.
