ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sara Cupp delivered two RBIs giving her 34 on the season to break the school record for most RBIs in a single season eclipsing the previous mark of 32 set by Keri Sedgley in 2001. Lauren Mead also hit 2-for-5 with a three-RBI double as Oakland (20-18, 11-3 HL) split a league doubleheader against Green Bay (14-21, 6-8 HL) with a 5-2 win and 6-4 setback on Saturday at the Oakland Softball Field. Haley Zemmer (4-4) recorded her fourth complete game of the season with six scattered hits and seven strikeouts in the second game.
Cupp led Oakland offensively overall hitting 4-for-6 with a triple and two doubles while Courtnee Johnson went 1-for-4 with a double, two RBIs and two runs scored. Morgan Muron was 1-for-4 with two runs with Marina Salinas and Julia Morales each adding a RBI.
With the bases loaded in the second inning of the nightcap, Oakland took a 4-0 lead as Mead battled GB pitcher Briana Cavin with a 12-pitch at bat before belting a bases clearing double to left field scoring TJ Bindus, Morales and Johnson. Salinas then added a sacrifice fly to plate Mead.
Green Bay responded in the third with two runs off two hits before Cupp hit a RBI single to score Muron in the bottom half giving Oakland a 5-2 advantage which Zemmer would hold over the next four innings to secure the win.
In game one, Cupp hit a RBI double in the first inning giving Oakland a 1-0 lead before Green Bay posted five runs off six hits to take a 5-1 lead in the third.
The Golden Grizzlies chipped away adding a run in the fourth highlighted by Cupp's triple and two more in the bottom of the sixth off a RBI double from Johnson and single by Morales to cut GB's lead at 6-4.
Oakland got runners at second and third with one out but could not get the game tying hit off Hailey McDermott who recorded the final two outs to pick up the save.
Oakland hits the road with a three-game league series at Cleveland State beginning on Friday, April 24 at 4 p.m.
