ROCHESTER, Mich. - Tyler Pagano went 3-for-5 and drove in a run, while Mike Brosseau collected two hits and scored two runs as the Oakland baseball team (6-23, 3-12) dropped the series opener to Wright State (25-10, 11-4), 17-5, on Friday from the Oakland Baseball Field.
Wright State jumped out early with a seven-run first inning led by a two-RBI double by Michael Timm followed by a two-run home run by Sean Murphy. Oakland scored its first run in the third inning as Zach Sterry hit a single to right field to plate Brosseau.
The Raiders added to its lead in the seventh inning with four runs as Mitch Roman drove in a pair of runs with a single to right field. The Golden Grizzlies plated two runs in the bottom half of the inning as Ben Hart scored on a throwing error by the catcher and later Trent Drumheller would bring in a run with a groundball to the shortstop.
Oakland would score the final two runs of the game as Pagano ripped a double to right field for a run in the eighth inning and in the ninth Brett Impemba was hit by a pitch with the bases loaded.
Jason Hager suffered the loss allowing seven runs on six hits, while WSU's Jesse Scholtens earned the winning tossing 7.0 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, on nine hits and five strikeouts.
The second game of this three-game Horizon League series will begin Saturday at 1 p.m. from the Oakland Baseball Field.
