VALPARAISO, Ind. - Ian Yetsko went 4-for-4 with three doubles, two RBIs and two runs scored, while Brett Impemba also drove in a pair of runs as the Oakland baseball team (5-22, 3-11) dropped the series finale at Valparaiso (13-17, 8-5), 15-7, on Sunday from Emory G. Bauer Field.
"The weekend was disappointing," said head coach John Musachio. "However, the guys know what they need to do to get it done on Wednesday."
Oakland would get on the board early in the first inning as Yetsko doubled home Robby Enslen, but Valparaiso would respond with a four-run bottom half of the inning. Nolan Lodden hit a RBI-single through the right-side followed by Daniel Delaney driving in two runs with a double.
The Golden Grizzlies cut the deficit to 4-2 in the third with Enslen plating Tyler Janish with a ground ball to the shortstop, but once again the Crusaders answered with a big inning scoring three runs in the bottom half of the inning.
Trailing 7-2, Oakland scored two more runs in the fourth inning led by a RBI single by Impemba to cut the deficit to three runs. However, Valpo would plate three runs in the fifth inning to take a 11-5 lead.
Nate Green suffered the loss allowing four runs, three earned, on five hits in 2.0 innings. Jason Condit earned the winning tossing 1.1 shutout innings in relief allowing just one hit.
The Golden Grizzlies are scheduled to be back on the diamond Wednesday as they host Western Michigan at the Oakland Baseball Field starting at 3 p.m.
