OAKLAND DROPS SERIES OPENER AT VALPARAISO, 9-3

VALPARAISO, Ind. - Ian Yetsko drove in three runs including hitting his first career home run as the Oakland baseball team (5-20, 3-9) dropped the series opener at Valparaiso (11-17, 7-5), 9-3, on Friday from Emory G. Bauer Field.

"Dalton Lundeen showed why he is the reigning Horizon League Pitcher of the Year," said coach John Musachio. "I thought we had him on the ropes early and he just got better as the game went on."

With the game tied 3-3 in the fifth inning, the Crusaders would score six unanswered runs including four two-out runs in the fifth inning. With the bases loaded, Josh Clark would plate two runs with an infield single followed by a two-RBI single by Daniel Delaney.

Oakland jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the first inning as Yetsko drove home Mike Brosseau and Spencer Marentette with a single to right field. Valpo took the lead in the third inning scoring one run in the first three innings. Yetsko would tie the game in the fourth inning, 3-3, blasting a lead-off solo home run.

Jason Hager suffered the loss allowing eight runs, five earned, in 6.0 innings on six hits and striking out three batters. Valpo's Dalton Lundeen earned the win tossing a complete game allowing three runs, one earned, on nine hits with 10 strikeouts.

The second game of this three-game Horizon League series will begin on Saturday at 1 p.m. ET from Emory G. Bauer Field.
