ROCHESTER, Mich. - Baseball's Nate Green has been named the Oakland Student-Athlete of the Week, for the week of March 2-8, after earning his first career win on the mound over the weekend at Southern Miss.
Green, a freshman from Hilliard, Ohio, came into Saturday's game with the Golden Grizzlies trailing 5-3 and threw 5.1 shutout innings out of the bullpen and allowed Oakland to score four more runs to earn is second win of the season, 7-5. Green scattered three hits and struck out six Golden Eagles to close out the game. He earned his first career win in only his fourth appearance for the Golden Grizzlies.
The baseball team will return to the diamond this weekend when it opens Horizon League play against the defending regular season champions Wright State for a three-game set beginning Friday at 6:30 p.m. at Nischwitz Stadium.
