CHICAGO - Robby Enslen collected three hits and five RBIs, while Jason Hager threw 7.1 innings as the Oakland baseball team (2-13, 0-4) lost to UIC (6-9-1, 3-1) in extra innings, 11-10, Friday evening from Granderson Stadium. The Golden Grizzlies outhit the Flames 13-10.
"Great comeback by UIC," said coach John Musachio. "We weren't able to finish. We still have a chance to win the series tomorrow."
In the 10th inning tied 10-10, UIC won the game as Tommy Field walked then stole second base and scored as Cody Bohanek hit a single to right-center field.
Oakland jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the second inning as Tyler Pagano singled home a pair of runs up the middle followed by a two-RBI ground-rule double by Enslen. UIC responded with a three-run bottom of the inning as Ricardo Ramirez doubled home a run and Gabe Dwyer hit a two-RBI double down the left field line.
Up 6-5 in the eighth inning, the Golden Grizzlies pushed its lead to 10-5 as Mike Brosseau singled to centerfield to drive in a run and Enslen once again singled centerfield to bring home two more runs. The Flames were able to tie the game in the bottom half of the inning with five runs. UIC scored two runs on bases-loaded walks and later brought home two more runs on a groundball to short.
Hager started for Oakland throwing 7.1 innings, allowing six runs on seven hits with one strikeout. UIC's Ryan Hinchley earned the win tossing 2.0 innings in relief, allowing no hits and striking out three batters.
Oakland returns to the diamond on Saturday for a doubleheader against UIC starting at 1 p.m. ET at Granderson Stadium.
