LORETTO, Pa - Four second half goals from Kyla Kellermann, Cecile Dokka, Alice Palmer and Claudia Krupicz sparked Oakland (2-7-1) to a 4-1 come from behind victory at St. Francis (0-9-1) Sunday afternoon at the Stokes Soccer complex. Dokka's game-winning goal was the first of her career with Palmer also adding two assists. Stephanie Bukovec recorded her first career win in goal to lead the Golden Grizzles defensively.
"I am very happy with the result," said head coach Margaret Saurin. "We had a slow start and were chasing the game for about 25 minutes but made some changes at the half which enabled us to be very good in the second half. Hats off to our subs that helped us create a ton of chances and moved the ball well at times. Our back line and keeper were solid in the second half keeping their forwards at bay. It was an important win for us because we are heading into conference play on Wednesday feeling confident that we can battle with any team and win tough games. We have played in tough environments on the road and have become a much stronger team because of it."
After trailing 1-0 at the half, Oakland fired 14 of its 19 shots in the second half igniting an offensive explosion beginning with Kellermann's game-tying goal in the 57th minute. On a corner kick set piece, St. Francis cleared Palmer's service but she was able to recover the ball and send it back into the box where Kellerman put home a header from five yards out past Romina Kunze.
Four minutes later, Palmer played a cross from the right side through traffic to Dokka who scored on a left-footed shot from 14 yards out giving the Golden Grizzlies a 2-1 lead.
In the 71st minute, Palmer took a long service from Aly Rawson and moved the ball out to Kendra Prince who hit a bouncing ball back over to Palmer. She in turn beat a defender and fired a shot past Kunze from 10 yards out.
Krupicz corralled a failed clear by a St. Francis defender and fired a shot from the left side which hit the post and bounced into the left corner of the net past Kunze who was out of position to seal the Golden Grizzlies 4-1 win.
Oakland begins Horizon League Conference play with a match at Valparaiso on Wednesday, Sept. 24 at 7:30 p.m. ET.
