May 21, 2014

Box Score

MEQUON, Wis. - Robby Enslen went 3-for-4 with two RBIs and Spencer Marentette scored two runs as the Oakland baseball team (12-32) dropped its opening game of the Horizon League tournament to Milwaukee (20-27), 4-2, Wednesday afternoon at Kapco Park.

"Well played game by both teams," said head coach John Musachio. "In the seventh inning there were some plays that made the difference. That's how small the margin of error is at this level. We just have to come out ready to play tomorrow."

Milwaukee took the 4-2 lead in the bottom of the seventh as the Panthers scored three runs on three hits. Horizon League Player of the Year Ryan Solberg had a RBI-double down the right-field line, folowed by an infleid single by Pat Wilson and a Tyler Hermann sacrifice fly to center field.

Oakland took its first lead of the game in the seventh inning as Enslen drove a ball up the middle for a single to take a 2-1 advantage. Down 1-0 in the fifth inning, OU tied the game with a two-out RBI-single by Enslen into left field to plate Marentette.

UWM scored first in the bottom of the fourth inning on a Mike Porcaro single up the middle to score Wilson from third base.

Jason Hager suffered the loss throwing 6.1 innings, allowing four runs on nine hits and struck out four batters. UWM's Tyler Thicke tossed a complete game giving up two runs on seven hits with six strikeouts.

The Golden Grizzlies will play on Thursday at noon ET in the tournament's first elimination game against the loser of No. 3 Valparaiso and No. 6 Youngsotwn State at Kapco Park.
