ROCHESTER, Mich. - Robby Enslen went 3-for-5 with two RBIs and Tyler Janish finished 2-for-3 with two runs scored as the Oakland baseball team (7-24, 2-13 HL) dropped the series finale to Wright State (25-16, 18-2 HL), 17-6, on Sunday at the OU Baseball Field.
"We played poorly today," said head coach John Musachio. "I am extremely disappointed in our defensive effort. We have a lot to work on before heading into next weekend at Valpo."
Wright State jumped out to a 6-0 lead in the second inning as Oakland committed two errors in the inning that led to a three-run double by Michael Timm down the right-field line. Oakland responded with three runs in the bottom of the third inning as Mike Brosseau singled in a run and Jared Theisen drove in two runs with a single to left field.
The Raiders would continue to capitalize on OU errors as they scored three runs in the fourth inning as two runs came home on a fielding error at shortstop followed by a Jason DeFevers RBI-single up the middle to push the lead to 10-3. WSU would add four runs in the eighth inning on seven hits.
Oakland plated three runs in the bottom half of the eighth inning as Trent Drumheller scored on a wild pitch followed by a two-RBI double by Enslen down the left-field line.
OU starter Jake Paulson tossed 5.0 innings, allowing 12 runs, just one earned, on eight hits and struck out five batters. WSU's Darion Nunn earned the win allowing three runs on five hits in 3.0 innings.
The Golden Grizzlies finished the game with six runs on 10 hits with six errors, while the Raiders had 17 runs on 17 hits and committed two errors.
Oakland will play two midweek games this week, traveling to Michigan on Tuesday and hosting Central Michigan on Wednesday, before heading to Valparaiso for a three-game Horizon League series starting on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
