ROCHESTER, Mich. - Meghan Tangney went 3-for-4 and drove a run in as Oakland (12-18) dropped a mid-week contest to Toledo (16-31), 8-6 despite a seventh-inning rally by the Golden Grizzlies. Courtnee Johnson and Sarah Hartley were both 2-for-3 on the day as well, each with a run and an RBI.
Toledo got on the board in the top of the first inning with three runs on four hits. Oakland wasted no time in answering when Erika Polidori reached on an error and made it around the base paths, followed by Jackie Kisman to narrow Toledo's lead to 3-2. Toledo then added two more runs to its lead in the top of the third and one more in the top of the fifth to take the 6-2 advantage.
Two more runs for the visiting Rockets brought their lead to 8-2 after the top of the sixth until Oakland sprung to life in the bottom of the seventh. Morgan Muron singled to left and Johnson did the same. Brittany Prior reached on an error to load the bases for Hartley, who notched an RBI single. Tangney and Chelsea Carena recorded subsequent singles to score two more Oakland runs and cut the lead to 8-5. Hartley would score on a wild pitch and Polidori was intentionally walked to load the bases once more. Kisman would be the final out of the game, however, flying out to center field to end the contest 8-6 in favor of Toledo.
Kaley Waalkes recorded the start in the circle for the Golden Grizzlies and threw one inning surrendering three runs on four hits. Bailee Braunreuther came in and threw 4.2 innings giving up five runs on nine hits - only two of the runs earned - with two strikeouts. Laura Pond threw for the remaining 1.1 innings allowing two hits through six batters faced with one strikeout.
Oakland continues its home slate on Friday in a make-up doubleheader with Cleveland State. The first game is set to begin at 2 p.m.
