April 2, 2014

Box Score

EAST LANSING, Mich. - Brett Impemba recorded three hits and Robby Enslen had two hits and a RBI as the Oakland baseball team (4-14) fell to Michigan State (14-11), 5-3, Wednesday afternoon at McLane Stadium.

"We played very hard and very well against a good Michigan State team," said coach John Musachio. "We had some chances early to really blow the game wide open but MSU made a few great defensive plays to keep them in it."

Oakland scored in the first inning as Trent Drumheller scored on a ground ball to first base off the bat of Zach Sterry and once again in the second inning as Enslen hit a RBI-single through the left side to score Trent Pell. OU pushed its lead to 3-0 in the third inning as Impemba scored on a Spencer Marentette single to right-center field.

Michigan State would tie the game in the bottom of the third inning as Anthony Cheky hit a two-run home run followed by a RBI double by Blaise Salter. The Spartans took the lead in the fifth inning as Ryan Richardson singled to left field to score Cheky from third base. MSU scored the final run of the game in the seventh inning as Joel Fischer hit a sacrifice fly to score Jimmy Pickens.

The Golden Grizzlies had a chance to tie the game in the top of the seventh inning as Marentette hit a fly ball to center field but Impemba was unable to tag up from third base.

Oakland starter Kendall Colvin threw 4.0 innings, giving up three runs on five hits and striking out two batters. Bryan Jagielo suffered his first loss of the season throwing one inning out of the bullpen giving up one run on two hits.

OU finished the game with three runs on 13 hits with one error, while MSU scored five runs on 10 hits and committed no errors.

The Golden Grizzlies will return to league play this weekend as they travel to Milwaukee for a three-game set beginning on Friday at 4 p.m. ET.
