GREEN BAY, Wis. - Tamara Blum and Elizabeth Guy paired for a victory in doubles play before each posting straight-set love victories to help vault Oakland to a 6-1 win over Green Bay Sunday morning at Western Racquet Club. Oakland evened its Horizon League ledger at 1-1 and improved to 5-9 overall while Green Bay fell to 0-6 overall, 0-2 in league action.
The Golden Grizzlies breezed through doubles play, giving up just two games in three victories. Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara registered an 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles, while Blum and Guy paired for an 8-1 victory at No. 2 doubles. Cam Sabourin and Maxime Colen rounded out the sweep with an 8-1 win at No. 3 doubles.
In singles play, Blum and Guy went 6-0, 6-0 at No. 4 and No. 5 singles, respectively, to put Oakland in control. Guevara added a 6-0, 6-2 win at No. 6 singles, while Colen was a 6-2, 6-3 winner at No. 3 singles. Celis needed extra tennis in a 3-6, 6-1, 10-8 win at No. 2 singles.
Oakland will host its first home contest of the season Saturday, March 29 when the Golden Grizzlies entertain Youngstown State for a 4:30 p.m. tilt at Bloomfield Tennis & Fitness.
