DAYTON, Ohio - Mike Brosseau had two hits with two RBIs as the Oakland Baseball team (4-11, 0-3 HL) dropped the series finale to Wright State (12-10, 6-0 HL), 5-2, Sunday afternoon at Nischwitz Stadium.
"Our guys played hard like we always do today," said coach John Musachio. "Unfortunately, we made too many mental mistakes. When you make mental mistakes both offensively and defensively it is tough to win close games. We will come back and work hard this week as we focus on two midweek games and Valpo this weekend."
With the game tied 2-2 in the seventh, Wright State took the lead on a RBI-double by Brad Macciocchi down the left-field line. The Raiders would add two runs in the eighth inning as Kieston Greene hit a sacrifice fly to right field and Michael Timm scored on a wild pitch.
WSU jumped out to a quick 2-0 lead in the first inning capitalizing on three consecutive Oakland errors. The Golden Grizzlies would answer with a run in the top of the third inning as Brosseau singled to center field to drive in Andre Sopena from second base.
OU tied the game at 2-2 in the sixth as Brosseau came through with his second RBI of the game on a single down the right-field line to score Sopena. The Golden Grizzlies had an opportunity to take the lead in the seventh as Jared Theisen led off the inning with a triple, but were unable to get him across home plate.
Jake Paulson (2-2) suffered the loss throwing 7.0 innings, allowing three runs, one earned, while striking out two batters. Wright State's Robby Sexton earned the win tossing 7.0 innings, allowing two earned runs and striking out seven.
The Golden Grizzlies finished the day with two runs on six hits and committed five errors, while the Raiders had five runs on five hits with no errors.
Oakland will be back on the field again on Tuesday as they travel to Kent State beginning at 3 p.m. followed by a Wednesday home game against Toledo set for 3 p.m. at the OU Baseball Field.
