East Lansing, Mich. - Tamara Blum was up to the challenge at No. 2 singles in Oakland's match with Michigan State Saturday afternoon in her 6-3, 6-3 setback as the Golden Grizzlies fell to the Spartans 7-0 at the MSU Indoor Tennis Facility.
"Tamara had a good singles match for us," Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw said. "We played doubles much better today, especially at No. 1 and No. 2 doubles."
The Golden Grizzlies put pressure on Michigan State early in doubles action. At No. 1 doubles, the team of Karine Celis and Juliana Guevara battled before falling 6-4. Oakland's No. 2 doubles team of Blum and Elizabeth Guy also kept their match close before losing 6-4.
Taking momentum, Michigan State (6-1) then swept all six singles matches with straight set victories.
Oakland (0-5) is away from action until the team's six-match road swing through Florida Feb. 23-27. The Golden Grizzlies will face Alma College and Missouri Feb. 23 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m., respectively.
