AVE MARIA, Fla. - Erin Kownacki (2-4) and Kaley Waalkes (2-1) both pitched complete games for Oakland as the Golden Grizzlies (4-7) took two games from Ave Maria (7-9) on Tuesday, Feb. 25 at AMU Softball Field. Kownacki gave up just three hits with zero runs or walks with nine strikeouts while Waalkes pitched eight innings giving up just five hits with two runs and four strikeouts.

The first game of the day featured a run from Oakland in the top of the first and second innings for an early 2-0 lead. No further offensive efforts would be contributed by either side in the defensive showdown that ultimately ended 2-0 in favor of Oakland.

In the nightcap, Ave Maria struck first in the bottom of the second inning and OU found an equalizer in the top of the third. Ave Maria answered back with one more run for the 2-1 advantage in the bottom of three but Brittany Prior nailed a double in the top of four to lead off what would eventually become the tying run.

The score would remain 2-2 through seven innings, forcing the eighth and international tiebreaker when Meghan Tangney was placed on second. It didn't take long for Prior to score Tangney on a sacrifice fly, which would start the explosive eighth inning for OU. The Grizzlies batted around the order in route to the eight-run inning. Ave Maria tallied zero runs in the bottom of eight after Muron gunned the third out at first to end the game.

Oakland travels to FGCU for two games on Wednesday against FGCU and Eastern Michigan. First pitch against FGCU is set for 2:30 p.m. and OU will face the in-state rival Eagles at 4:45 p.m.
