OAKLAND SPLITS FIRST DAY IN FLORIDA SWING

ORLANDO, Fla. - Karine Celis and the Oakland women's tennis team (1-6) split a pair of matches Sunday evening as the Golden Grizzlies captured their first win of the season with a convincing 7-0 victory over Alma College before falling to Missouri, 7-0.

Against Alma College (0-3-3), Oakland cruised with three 8-0 victories in doubles action. Celis and Juliana Guevara paired at No. 1 doubles for an 8-0 victory to set the tone. All three doubles teams were 8-0 winners against the Scots.

In singles action versus Alma, all six Oakland netters won by scores of 6-0, 6-0 to capture the win. Sunday's wins were the first dual victories this season for Celis, Guevara, Tamara Blum and Rebecca Phyle.

In the evening match against Missouri, the Tigers (3-5) took the doubles point with all three wins. Blum and Elizabeth Guy battled tough before falling, 8-5, at No. 2 doubles.

Missouri then swept singles play with straight-set victories. Celis just missed capturing the first set in her No. 1 singles match, falling in a tie-breaker and the match, 7-6 (5), 6-0.

The Golden Grizzlies will take on Mount St. Mary's Monday, Feb. 24 as the team continues its week-long trip in Florida.
