MUNCIE, Ind. - Elizabeth Guy rallied from a one-set deficit to win in a tie-breaker at No. 6 singles, but it was not enough in a 6-1 setback at Ball State Friday evening at the Muncie YMCA Tennis Center.
"Ball State is a good team, and our effort was not a bad start to the year," Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw said. "We will be more prepared for our next match against Eastern Michigan on Saturday."
Ball State started with wins at No. 3 and No. 2 doubles to take the first point of the match. At No. 1 doubles, Oakland's Karine Celis paired with Guy to battle tough before falling 6-4.
In singles action, Guy rallied to post a tie-breaker victory after dropping the first set 6-2. Guy went on to win the second set 6-4 and outlasted Ball State's Anna Rozenberg 10-6 in the tie-breaker.
Oakland's Rebecca Phyle battled tough before falling 6-2, 6-3 at No. 3 singles.
Oakland wraps up the weekend's action Saturday, Jan. 25 when the Golden Grizzlies travel to Eastern Michigan for an 8:30 p.m. matchup.
