Russell Luxton Jr. wins OU Student-Athlete of the Week after earning two saves to help the Oakland baseball team earn a series victory over North Dakota State and set the school's career saves record.
Luxton faced seven batters on the weekend and retired all seven in order. He earned his first save of the weekend by entering the game with runners on first and second and preserved the win with a ground ball out to third. Luxton got his second save throwing one inning in the bottom of the 11th retiring all three batters he faced as Oakland earned a 2-1 extra innings win. He is now Oakland's career saves leader with 18 including 10 saves last season, one away from the single-season record.
The Golden Grizzlies will be at the OU Baseball Field five times this week as they host Central Michigan on Wednesday at 3 p.m. and will also host a four-game Summit League series against Omaha over the weekend.
