MOUNT PLEASANT, Mich. - Connor Mielock went 2-for-4, with a double and two runs batted in, and Jared Theisen went 1-for-3, with a walk and two stolen bases, to lead Oakland (7-21) in a 7-4 loss at Central Michigan (13-18) on Wednesday at Theunissen Stadium. Each team finished the game with seven hits.
"It was a tough day to play baseball," said OU coach John Musachio. "Both teams made their share of mistakes and we simply made more than CMU did."
Right-handed pitcher Chris Van Dyke got the start and earned a no decision, giving up two hits, one run and fanned four. RHP Jonah Lakatos (0-1) was the pitcher of record, allowing three earned runs and struck out one, recording two outs in the sixth inning.
Back-to-Back doubles by Mielock and Spencer Marentette gave Oakland a 2-0 lead in the top of the second inning. The Chippewas added a run in the bottom half of the second and an unearned run in the third as the game was tied at 2-2.
After CMU took the lead in the fifth inning with one run, the Chippewas opened up a four-run lead with three more in the sixth inning as Nick Regnier and Neal Jacobs each doubled and drove in runs.
Each team would add one more run as the Golden Grizzlies fell by three. OU had four runs, on seven hits and committed four errors, while CMU scored seven runs, on seven hits and had two errors.
The Golden Grizzlies will host North Dakota State on Friday in a Summit League doubleheader at the OU Baseball Field. First pitch is scheduled for Noon.
