YPSILANTI, Mich. - Mike Carson, Brett Impemba and Spencer Marentette each had hits for Oakland (3-15) in a 7-0 loss to Michigan State (13-7) on Sunday at Oestrike Stadium on Eastern Michigan's campus. The Golden Grizzlies struggled offensively for the fourth straight game, tallying three hits to the Spartans nine.
"We just couldn't get anything going offensively this entire series," said OU coach John Musachio. "Again, you have to credit Michigan State's pitching staff."
Right-handed pitcher Chris Van Dyke (1-2) took the loss on the mound, working 4.0 innings, allowing seven runs, four earned runs, struck out two and walked two. Eight OU pitchers combined to throw the final 4.0 innings, allowing just two hits and no runs.
MSU's Mick VanVossen (2-1) tossed 7.0 scoreless innings, scattering three hits and struck out one. Justin Hovis drove in a team-high two runs and Ryan Richardson finished 2-for-4 with two RBIs.
The Spartans busted the game open in the second inning with four runs, courtesy of an error by the OU second baseman and an RBI double by Ryan Krill. MSU tacked on three more runs in the fourth inning as Richardson drove in two runs with a single up the middle.
OU had no runs, three hits and committed two errors, while MSU scored seven runs, on nine hits and had one error.
