MANHATTAN, Kan. -- Mike Carson was perfect at the plate to lead Oakland (0-5) in a 4-2 loss to Kansas State (4-3) on Saturday at Tointon Family Stadium. Jason Hager (0-1) made a strong start for the Golden Grizzlies, allowing just three runs over six innings on the mound.

:We pitched very well today against a strong hitting team," said Oakland head coach John Musachio. "Our bullpen came in and was aggressive in the strike zone. I give a lot of credit to Nate Williams, who kept us off balance most of the game."

Carson singled in the the sixth inning to break up a no-hit bid by Kansas State pitcher Nate Williams (2-1). Carson's single drove in Trent Drumheller, who had drawn a one-out walk earlier in the inning. Carson walked in his first two plate appearances.

Drumheller had a double in the eighth that put two runners in scoring position. Kyle Bobolts drove in Connor Mielock with an RBI-groundout to make it 4-2. Carson was hit by a pitch to put the tying run on-base, but a good play by the KSU shortstop on a ball up the middle ended the threat.

Hager had a pair of strikeouts and scattered nine hits to allow just three runs, as the OU staff left 11 KSU runners stranded. Kevin Korkate pitched one scoreless inning of relief and allowed one hit.

Williams struck out five through 7.2 innings. Tanner Witt (2) collected the save for KSU after pitching a scoreless ninth inning. Kansas State outhit Oakland 10-3 for the game.

The two teams will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday with a doubleheader starting at 1 p.m. ET.
