EAST LANSING, Mich. -- Tamara Blum played a tight match at No. 3 singles as Oakland (0-1) dropped its dual season opener, 7-0, to Michigan State (2-0) at the MSU Indoor Tennis Complex.
"It's tough starting the season with a Big Ten opponent, but our team fought hard," said Oakland head coach Heather Redshaw. " We really played with intensity in singles."
After MSU took the doubles point, OU battled and took a game in every singles match. Blum was the closest, falling 7-5, 6-1 to Olga Chernova. Juliana Guevara also battled in a 6-1, 6-3 defeat at No. 5 singles.
Both Camille Sabourin and Grace Keating lost 6-2, 6-1 at No. 4 and No. 6 singles respectively. Emily Raidt went down 6-3, 6-0 at No. 1 singles and Karine Celis dropped her match at No. 2 singles 6-1, 6-0.
"It is the starting point for the season and we definitely have some things to work on," continued Redshaw. "The doubles took some getting used to because this year there is no-ad scoring. We dropped a few doubles games on the deciding point."
Oakland returns to the court on Saturday, Feb. 2 to face Detroit in a dual match at the Franklin Athletic Club at 2 p.m.
