EAST LANSING, Mich. - Mike Carson and Aaron Cieslak combined for five hits, as Oakland (3-15) lost, 11-2, to Michigan State (12-7) on Saturday at McClane Stadium. Carson was 3-for-4, while Cieslak went 2-for-4 and each had an RBI.
"We struggled in every facet of the game today," said Oakland coach John Musachio. "The score reflected our team's struggles."
Carson put Oakland on the board with an RBI-double that hit the wall just under the 375 mark. He then scored to tie the game at 2-2 on a single by Cieslak.
The score remained tied until the fourth inning, when the Spartans took the lead with a single run. MSU added runs in each of the next three innings to take a 7-2 lead, before opening up the game in the eighth with four runs on five hits to make it 11-2.
The Spartans outhit Oakland 14-9, but also took advantage of four OU errors.
MSU scored a single run in both the first and second inning. Right fielder John Estes, threw out a runner at the plate to end the second and kept it 2-0 early.
Oakland starter Hayden Fox (0-4) suffered the loss, going four innings. Andrew Waszak (2-1) pitched five innings and earned the win for MSU.
The Golden Grizzlies and Spartans will wrap up the three-game series on Sunday at 1:05 p.m .
