CINCINNATI, Ohio - Mike Carson's two doubles led the Oakland baseball team (0-5) in a 4-2 loss at Cincinnati (2-5) on Friday at Marge Schott Field. Carson was 2-for-3and drove in a run in the first inning.
"We lost a tough one tonight," said Oakland coach John Musachio. "I think we'll bounce back from this and continue to play hard for the rest of the series. We play four games and I believe that we can still come out and win the series."
Oakland got out to an early lead, scoring two runs in the first inning. Tim Ryan stole two bases and scored on a wild throw to put OU in front. Carson followed with an RBI-double down the left-field line to score Kyle Bobolts. Ryan has reached base in 14 straight games dating back to last season.
Carson had two of Oakland's three hits, as the Bearcats outhit OU 10-3. Jeff Gorecki (0-2) threw five innings and had six strikeouts, as he allowed just three runs.
Despite the good start, Oakland couldn't hold on to the lead and the Bearcats tied the game with a pair of runs in the third inning. Cincinnati took the lead in the fourth inning following a leadoff triple and added a run in the seventh, again with the benefit of a leadoff triple.
Andrew Strenge (1-1) went 5.1 innings to earn the win for UC. Zach Isler (1) had two strikeouts in the final inning to earn his first save of the year.
The Golden Grizzlies will play a doubleheader with the Bearcats on Saturday starting at 1 p.m.
