ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Marisa Everitt, junior Kelsey Krych and freshman Alyssa Shriver each had a hit as the Oakland University softball team (14-27, 7-14 Summit) fell 9-0 to IPFW (26-12-1, 14-7 Summit) Saturday afternoon at the OU Softball Field.

"It was a disappointing end to the week," said head coach LaDonia Hughes. "We did not finish today. We're a better team than what we showed today. I know we will step it up over the last five games of the season."

In the first inning, IPFW used four hits and an error to score four runs.

In the bottom of the first, senior Alyssa Deacon walked and then stole second. Sophomore Ali Nikolaus came into run for Deacon when she was hurt on the steal. Freshman Erika Polidori drew a walk. The Mastodons got a strike out and fly out to end the inning.

In the third, Sara Hopwood hit a solo home run over the left field fence. Alex Bousquet doubled and came home on a two-run homer over the right field fence by Rachel Staschuk.

In the fourth, Ashleigh Bousquet hit a single and was forced out at second on a fielder's choice by Courtney Cronin. Kristina Karpun hit a two-run home run over the left field fence.

Sara Jacobson doubled off the center field fence. Kirstie Rohn singled to centerfield and junior Krych threw Jacobson out at home.

In the bottom of the fourth, Everitt singled through the right side to break up the no-hitter.

In the bottom of the fifth, Shriver and Krych led off with singles. Nikolaus led down a sacrifice bunt that was misplayed to load the bases. The Mastodons got a fielder's choice, pop up and ground out to end the game.

For Oakland, senior Alison Tansel (3-9) gave up seven hits, five runs and struck out one in 3.2 innings.

For IPFW, Staschuk was 2-for-4, had a home run, scored two runs and drove in two runs while Hopwood and Karpun each hit home runs. Cronin (17-8) threw a three-hitter with four walks and six strikeouts in five innings.

Oakland closes out the home season, Tuesday, May 3, taking on Toledo. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 2 p.m. Live Stats will be available at www.ougrizzlies.com.
