ROCHESTER, Mich. - Senior Marisa Everitt struck out eight batters in four innings of relief as the Oakland University softball team (7-16, 3-6 Summit) lost 9-2 to Centenary (3-22, 2-10 Summit), Saturday afternoon at the OU Softball Field.
"We didn't close out the series" said head coach LaDonia Hughes. "Today is a prime example of what we have been talking about all season. We'll learn from this and move on to the next game."
In the first inning, Centenary used four hits and five errors to score seven runs. The Ladies would score one in the third and fourth to make it 9-0.
In the bottom of the fourth, junior Abbie Richardson walked and moved to third on a double to right field by Everitt. Freshman Alyssa Shriver grounded out to score Richardson and move Everitt to third. Freshman Erika Polidori delivered a pinch hit single to score Everitt.
For Oakland, junior Kylie Schalz and Everitt each had a double on the day. Doyle (3-5) gave up three hits, five runs, none of them earned in 0ne-third of an inning for the loss. Everitt gave up one hit, one run and struck out eight batters in four innings.
For Centenary, Nicole Warren was 2-for-4 whiel Bonnie Matak had a solo home run. Lynsi Unruh (1-5) gave up two hits and struck out three batters in 3.1 innings for the win.
Oakland is back home, Tuesday, April 5 taking on Western Michigan. Both games of the doubleheader, which is scheduled to start at 3 p.m, will be available via live stats at www.ougrizzlies.com.
