Oakland Sweeps Away Centenary

ROCHESTER, Mich. - Sophomore Erin Galloway went 4-for-6, scored three runs and drove in three runs and junior Leah DiCristofaro was 3-for-6, scored three runs and drove in three runs as the Oakland University softball team (7-15, 3-5 Summit) swept Centenary (2-22, 1-10 Summit) 8-0 and 11-3, Friday afternoon at the OU Softball Field.

"It was nice to finally play at home," said head coach LaDonia Hughes. "It was a total team effort in both wins. Everyone that played contributed which is nice to see. I thought our defense played well with only one error on the day. We continue to get better with each game and that is what we strive for."

In the first inning, junior Kelsey Krych walked, stole second and would score after two sacrifice bunts. DiCristofaro smacked a solo shot over the center field fence to make it 2-0. Oakland would score once in the second to make it 3-0.

The Golden Grizzlies scored five runs in the fourth to break the game open.

For Oakland, Krych scored two runs and drove in two runs and Galloway drove in two runs. Junior Brittany Doyle (3-4) threw a one-hitter with three strikeouts in five innings of work.

For Centenary, Kelsey Regan had the lone hit. Lauren Highsmith (2-16) gave up two hits, five runs, four earned, walked five and struck out four in three innings.

In the nightcap, Jenny King doubled and moved to third on a single from Kalyn Harris. Following a steal, Oakland tagged King at home on a fielder's choice. A ground out scored Harris for Centenary.

In the second, DiCristofaro lead off with a single and was replaced by freshman Chelsea Carena. Carena moved to second on a single by freshman Shannon Cleveland. A Centenary error allowed Carena to score to make it 1-1.

In the third, senior Alyssa Deacon singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Galloway singled up the middle to score Deacon. Junior Kylie Schalz singled, moving Galloway to third and then stole second. DiCristofaro walked to load the bases.

Senior Marisa Everitt dropped a single in to right field to scored Galloway. Cleveland laced a single to left field that scored Schalz and DiCristofaro. Sophomore Dani Dulberg beat out a bunt single to load the bases again. A fielder's choice would score Everitt.

Oakland would score two in the fourth countered by the Ladies scoring twice in the sixth. The Golden Grizzlies scored three in the bottom of the sixth to end the contest.

For Oakland, Galloway and Schalz had three hits each while Cleveland, DiCristofaro and Everitt had two hits apiece. Senior Alison Tansel (2-6) gave up six hits, three runs, two earned and struck out one batter in 5.2 innings.

For Centenary, Harris was 2-for-3 while King had a double. Lynsi Unruh (0-5) gave up 16 hits, 11 runs, nine earned, walked one and struck out one in 5.2 innings.
