Oakland Falls to IUPUI 7-1

March 19, 2011

Box Score

INDIANAPOLIS - Senior Kerry Brennan had two hits as the Oakland University softball team (5-15, 1-5 Summit) lost 7-1 to IUPUI (9-12, 4-2 Summit) Saturday afternoon at Jaguars Field.

"Everything is starting to fall in place," said head coach LaDonia Hughes. "We are headed in the right direction. However, we need to clean it up on defense. We also need to stay focus for the entire game and not just settle for having the lead. We are improving in many areas as a team. In time, I know we will find a way to put everything together and leave it all on the field."

In the bottom of the second, Jessica Lam doubled to drive in two runs, putting IUPUI up 2-0.

In the third, freshman Alyssa Shriver singled and moved to second on a ground out. Junior Kelsey Krych reached on an error, pushing Shriver to third. A failed pickoff attempt allowed Shriver to score to make it 2-1.

The Jaguars would score five runs in the bottom of the third to seal the game.

For Oakland, Brennan went 2-for-3 and Krych stole her 15th bases of the season. Senior Marisa Everitt (2-3) gave up five hits, seven runs, five of them earned, walked two and struck out two in 2.2 innings of work.

For the Jaguars, Amy Raker (1-0) gave up two hits, one run which was unearned and struck out one batter in 2.1 innings.

Oakland opens up the home portion of the season, Wednesday, March 23 against Toledo. The doubleheader is scheduled to start at 3 p.m. Live stats will be available at www.ougrizzlies.com.
