FARGO, N.D. - Reggie Hamilton scored a game-high 24 points, 18 in the second half, but North Dakota State (9-3, 2-1) used an early 17-0 run and shot 64 percent in the game to defeat Oakland (8-7, 2-1), 96-69, in Summit League men's basketball action on Wednesday night at the Bison Sports Arena. The loss was the fourth-worst league defeat for OU in program history.
"Early on in the game we were really, really poor on offense," said OU coach Greg Kampe. "Once the momentum got going in their direction, they were very good."
Travis Bader was the only other Oakland player in double figures with 12 points. He finished 5 of 13 from the floor and 0-for-4 from behind the arc. Kyle Sikora led OU on the glass with five rebounds.
NDSU had five players reach double figures in the game. Taylor Braun scored 18 points in the first half and finished with a team-high 21. Mike Felt scored 16 points off the bench and went 4 of 7 from long range, while TrayVonn Wright finished with 15. Dylan Hale drained all four of his 3-point attempts and scored 12 points and Lawrence Alexander posted 11 points and 10 assists for a double-double.
The Golden Grizzlies took an early 5-2 lead, but the Bison countered with a 17-0 run to take a 19-5 advantage. NDSU extended the lead to 21points and led by 20 at the break, 50-30. The Golden Grizzlies failed to convert on a 3-pointer in the first half, finishing 0-for-6.
Hamilton drained a quick 3-pointer in the second half, but the Bison shot 70 percent from beyond the arc in the final 20 minutes and led by as many as 31 points in the game. NDSU snapped Oakland's 7-game league winning streak and become the second league school in three years to defeat the Golden Grizzlies.
OU will travel to Brookings, S.D. to take on South Dakota State (10-4, 2-0) on Friday night at 8:30 p.m. ET. The game can be heard on OU's flagship station WDFN-AM (1130) with Mario Impemba (play-by-play) and Scott MacDonald (color).
