Oakland Shuts Down Centenary 7-2

TULSA, Okla. - Sophomore Aaron Cieslak went 3-for-5, Junior D.J. Jarrad went 2-for-2, scored two runs and drew a walk and while sophomore Tim Ryan was 2-for-4 and drove in three runs as the Oakland University baseball team (23-33) eliminated Centenary (28-26) 7-2 from The Summit League Tournament Friday morning at J.L. Johnson Stadium.

Oakland will play the loser of South Dakota State-Oral Roberts tonight at 7:00 p.m.

Centenary got on the board first scoring a run in the bottom of the third inning. In the fifth, Jarrad singled and sophomore John Estes drew a walk. Sophomore Todd Dunham laid down a sacrifice bunt to move the runners.

Ryan ripped a single through the right side to score Jarrad and Estes. Junior Ryan Waldhart drew a walk and Ryan scored on a single to right field by junior Tommy Jablonski.

Centenary threatened in the seventh with runners at the corners and no one out. Oakland got two strikeouts and a ground out to end the inning.

The Golden Grizzlies opened the eighth with singles from Jablonski and Cieslak. Junior Aaron Wick advanced the runners with a sacrifice bunt. Jarrad drew a walk to load the bases. Junior Eric Ogg came in to pinch hit and laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Jablonski and Cieslak and moved Jarrad to third.

Dunham drew a walk to put runners at the corners. Senior Brett Geschke singled to left and moved to second on the throw. Dunham ended up at third and Jarrad scored. Ryan singled to right field to score Dunham and make it 7-1. The Gents would score one in the ninth but that was all they could get.

Sophomore Connor Mielock (4-6) gave up five hits, one run, walked five and struck out two batters in six innings. Sophomore Matt LaMothe gave up four hits, one run and struck out two batters in 2.7 innings for his first save of the season.

For Centenary, Michael Tompkins was 3-for-5 and drove in two runs while Scott Pasket was 2-for-4 and scored twice. Seth Lugo (2-3) gave up four hits, three runs, walked three and struck out one batter in 4.7 innings.
