ROCHESTER, Mich. - Junior D.J. Jarrad went 3-for-4 and freshman Hayden Fox (3-0) gave up one hit and struck out six in three and 2/3rd innings as the Oakland University baseball team (9-14 Summit, 18-32) beat IPFW (11-13 Summit, 15-36) 7-1 Sunday afternoon at the OU Baseball Field.
In the fourth inning, with one out, junior Tommy Jablonski and sophomore Aaron Cieslak delivered singles. Junior Aaron Wick hit a grounder to first base. IPFW made the throw to second to force Cieslak and tried to get Wick at first.
The throw was dropped which allowed Jablonski to score. In the sixth inning, Brett Clark hit a solo shot to left field to tie the game up at 1-1.
In the eighth inning, Cieslak doubled down the right line followed by a walk to Wick. Jarrad singled past the third baseman to move Wick to second and score Cieslak. Freshman Todd Dunham singled down the third base line to advance Jarrad to second and score Wick.
Senior Brett Geschke singled to centerfield to score Jarrad. Sophomore Tim Ryan drew a walk to load the bases. Walks to junior Ryan Waldhart and Jablonski pushed two more runs across the plate. The Mastadons opened the ninth with a double however Fox got the next three batters out for the win.
Cieslak and Dunham finished the day with two hits each. Sophomore Matt LaMothe walked one and struck out seven batters in four innings.
Oakland closes out the regular season against Southern Utah, May 20-22 at home.
