Box Score

NOTRE DAME, Ind. - Sophomore Tim Ryan went 3-for-5, scored three runs and had two doubles and junior Aaron Wick went 3-for-5 as the Oakland University baseball team (5-15) fell 13-6 to Notre Dame (10-17) at Frank Eck Stadium, Friday evening.

Ryan opened the game up with a double to left centerfield and moved to third a sacrifice bunt. Junior Tommy Jablonski grounded out to second base to push Ryan across the plate for a 1-0 lead. Notre Dame came back to score a run in the bottom of the first.

In the third inning, with one out, Ryan singled to left field and stole second. Jablonski ripped a single into right field with Ryan coming all the way around to take back the lead, 2-1. The Fighting Irish would attempt to seal the game by scoring seven runs over the next two innings.

The Golden Grizzlies refused to go quiet as they scored one in the sixth inning. In the seventh inning, Ryan doubled to centerfield and advanced to third on a wild pitch. Freshman Todd Dunham hit a grounder that was misplayed by Notre Dame which allowed Ryan to score.

Dunham moved to second on a failed pickoff and reached third on a sacrifice bunt by Jablonski. A passed ball would get Dunham across the plate, making it 8-5. The Irish scored five runs in the bottom of the seventh to seal the game.

Freshman Mike Carson went 2-for-4 while junior Dan Gliot had his first home run of the season. Wick (0-2) gave up six hits, five runs, all of them earned, walked three batters and struck out two in three innings of work.

For Notre Dame, Frank Desico went 4-for-4 with a home run and David Mills drove in four runs. Adam Norton (1-0) gave up five hits, two runs, both of them earned and struck out six batters in four innings of work.

Oakland remains on the road, opening The Summit League season against defending champions, Oral Roberts, Apr. 9-11. The game on Friday, the 9th, is scheduled to start at 8:00 p.m.
