ROCHESTER, Mich. - Junior Tommy Jablonski went 3-for-7 as the Oakland University baseball team (2-8 Summit, 8-24) lost 8-5 in 14 innings to Centenary (9-1 Summit, 19-15) at the OU Baseball Field Saturday afternoon.
In the first inning, junior Ryan Waldhart laced a double down the right field line and moved to third on a sacrifice bunt. Centenary misplayed a fly ball which allowed Waldhart to score. The Gents would score twice over the next three innings.
With one out in the fifth, freshman Mike Carson hit a solo shot over the left field fence to make it 3-2. Sophomore Tim Ryan drew a walk. Waldhart dropped a single into right field that was misplayed. When the dust settled, Ryan had scored and Waldhart was at third.
Junior Tommy Jablonski ripped a single up the middle to score Waldhart and make it 4-3. Centenary scored twice in the sixth to take the lead at 5-4.
In the eighth inning, Jablonski singled and moved to second on a sacrifice bunt. Junior D.J. Jarrad singled through the right side to score Jablonski and tie the game at 5-5. The Gents used three hits and an error to score three runs in the 14th. Oakland went 1-2-3 in the bottom of the 14th to end the game.
Waldhart had two hits and scored two runs while Carson had two hits. Sophomore Russell Luxton (0-3) gave up two hits, two runs, both of them unearned and walked one batter in 1/3rd of an inning. Junior Mark Leichtman gave up two hits, one run and struck out six batters in eight innings of relief work.
For Centenary, Jeff Ericson, Scott Pasket and Alex Todd had three hits. Stephen Tromblee (2-2) gave up one hit and one and 1/3rd innings of work.
