ROCHESTER, Mich. - Juniors Tommy Jablonski went 3-for-3 and scored four runs as the Oakland University baseball team (3-8 Summit, 9-24) bounced back to beat Centenary (9-2 Summit, 19-16) 10-5 at the OU Baseball Field Saturday afternoon.
Centenary jumped to an early 1-0 lead after one inning. In the second inning, Oakland loaded the bases on a walk to freshman Mike Carson and singles by sophomore John Estes and junior D.J. Jarrad. Senior Brett Geschke hit a fielder's choice that forced Carson out at home.
Sophomore Tim Ryan was hit by a pitch which moved Estes across the plate. Junior Ryan Waldhart laced a double down the right field line, scoring Jarred and Geschke and moving Ryan to third. Jablonski laid down a sacrifice bunt that scored Ryan and moved Waldhart to third. Sophomore Aaron Cieslak singled up the middle to score Waldhart.
The Gents would score four in the top of the third to tie the game at 5-5. The Golden Grizzlies used three hits and two errors to score four runs in the bottom of the third to take the lead back, 9-5. Oakland scored once in the bottom of the fifth to seal the game.
Ryan went 2-for-3, scored three runs and drove in two runs while Cieslak went 2-for-4. Sophomore Matt LaMothe (2-4) gave up nine hits, five runs, walked three batters and struck out six in throwing the seven inning complete game.
For Centenary, Keegan Acker and Derek Dalzell had two hits each. Justin Kraft (3-4) gave up eight hits, nine runs, five of them earned, walked one and struck out three batters in two and 2/3rd innings.
Oakland and Centenary close out the series on Sunday, Apr. 25. The game is scheduled to start at 1:00 p.m.
