ROCHESTER, Mich. - Juniors Ryan Waldhart and Aaron Wick both went 2-for-4 as the Oakland University baseball team (2-7 Summit, 8-23) lost 4-1 to Centenary (8-1 Summit, 18-15) at the OU Baseball Field Friday afternoon.
Centenary got on the board scoring once in the first inning. The Gents would score three more runs over the next six inning to take a 4-0 lead.
In the eighth inning, Centenary misplayed a grounder hit by junior D.J. Jarrad. Sophomore Tim Ryan drew a walk to put two on with one out. Waldhart dropped in a single to right field that moved Ryan to third and scored Jarrad. That was as close as the Golden Grizzlies could get.
Sophomore Connor Mielock (1-5) gave up seven hits, four runs and struck out six batters in six and 1/3rd innings.
For Centenary, Jeff Schaffert was 3-for-4 while Keegan Acker was 2-for-4 and scored two runs. Boone Whiting (4-1) gave up four hits, one run which was unearned, walked two batters and struck out 11 in seven and 2/3rd innings.
Oakland and Centenary battle again, Saturday, Apr. 24 in a doubleheader. The game is scheduled to start at noon.
